  • enjoy human company

HOW FAR DO WE WALK?

Walks are tailored to the group's requirements and/ or the terrain.

WHERE ARE WE BASED?

We are based in the Historic Mining Town of Herberton, which is approximately 120km South-West of Cairns in the Tropics of North Queensland, Australia.

Our treks and expeditions may start and finish anywhere on Cape York reached by some form of public transport .

WHERE DO WE GO?

Our Backyard is the vast Cape York Wilderness and the beautiful Atherton Tablelands of North Queensland, Australia

WHAT IS THERE TO SEE?Two does and one buck Grey Kanagroos watch the photographer

You see, hear, smell and taste some of the wonders of the Aussie bush, including the wildlife including wallabies, wallaroos, rufus bettongs, platypus, goannas, water dragons, more than 125 species of birds. Floral displays of nature are always on show. We visit lesser known sites of Northern Australia's pioneer history, and spectacular scenery not often visited by others.

HOW MUCH DOES A DONKEY CARRY?

A guide and an assistant ties down a load on a grey donkey

A donkey will carry aproximately 15-20% of their body weight, which could be between 40 and 80 kg. The load is carried in special packs made of canvas with a capacity of 35-75 litres. The bags must balance to prevent strain being placed on the donkey's back and to prevent the load slipping . Items that don't fit in a pack can be roped onto the saddle as a "top load".
